Alliance Against Defamation:
This is one of the best organizations for our community. GLAAD is a
national organization that promotes fair, accurate and inclusive
representation as a means of challenging discrimination based on
sexual orientation or identity.
National
Center for Lesbian Rights:
NCLR is the nation's legal center with a primary commitment to
advancing the rights and safety of lesbians and their families through
a program of litigation, public policy advocacy, free legal advice and
counseling, and public education. In addition, NCLR provides
representation and resources to gay men, and bisexual and
transgendered individuals on key issue that also significantly advance
lesbian rights.
Lesbian Breast Cancer
Outreach Project:
Their mission is "To provide support to lesbians surviving with
breast cancer and their family, friends and partners. To educate the
lesbian population about breast cancer as it relates to them. To
educate health care providers on the issues concerning lesbians and
breast cancer. To help lesbians find the resources to receive proper
care".
Lesbian.org:
Resources for Lesbians It doesn't get much better than this. Amy
Goodloe's incredible compendium is an excellent resource for lesbians
on the Internet. Browsing the links listed here could keep you busy
for hours. This site is updated regularly, and the info is all
lesbian, all the time. Its list of links is basically click-and-go,
with little or no descriptions offered. Good information about mailing
lists, lesbian happenings and also a home to many cool projects such
as The June L. Mazer Lesbian Collection, the Lesbian Mothers Support
Society and The National Lesbian Political Action Committee.
Human Rights Campaign:
The Human Rights Campaign is the largest national lesbian and
gay political organization working for lesbian and gay equal rights.
Gay Financial Network This is an excellent resource for our community
to assist our financial health.
The
Lesbian Herstory Project: Focused on promoting lesbian history
and visibility, this site is dedicated to building a sense of
community and activism in the lesbian community. The site also serves
to aid women by allowing them to explore their sexuality in context of
the greater history and experience of lesbians from all over the
world.
The Lavender Room: A book club can be an invigorating
experience, a place to meet friends and to share your views on the
world. This site provides a list of gay and lesbian book clubs
across the country.
SoulForce: The SoulForce Project is dedicated to ending the
suffering of injustice towards gays, lesbians and transgendered
people through nonviolence. This site leans toward an
African-American, Christian perspective. However, the information
and viewpoints are passionate and meaningful - worth exploring by
all.
