Welcome to
the Sufism features section of Conscious Singles. We are here to offer
resources, support to those interested in Sufism.
As I mentioned earlier, I see myself as a "Jewfi" and have
felt very drawn to the experiential nature of Sufism. Sufi practices
that I have participated in have entailed sound, movement, breath and
working with light. So I am very excited to have this section added to
the website and to have Jacob's help..
What is Sufism?
The Sufi Order was founded by Hazrat Inayat Khan and is an
Interfaith Approach to Spiritual Growth.
Sufism is not easily defined, for it is neither a dinstinct
religion nor a doctrine. It does not require adherence to prescribed
dogma or ritual, an welcomes members of all races, nations, and
beliefs. It has existed throughout the centuries in many cultures.
Sufism is a way of looking at the world and a way of living
in the world. It emphasizes bringing one's highest ideals into every
day practice. It is a way for humanity to awaken to the abundance of
life, both individually and collectively, in every area of human
enterprise. (From The Sufi Order brochure.)

This section begins with the article,
A Universal Approach to Spiritual Growth: An Introduction
by Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan.
The Sufi Path offers a non-dogmatic approach to spiritual
life . One of its attractions is that it brings together an ancient
tradition with deep roots as well as a perspective which embraces the
tension and uncertainty of contemporary life. The Sufi does not hide
from doubt and darkness but prepares to be present no matter what is
currently before them. The Sufi seeks awakening, looking for God's
reflection in all aspects of life. In this short piece Pir Vilayat
Khan expresses this dynamic point of view, and suggests that Sufism
provides an opportunity towards wholeness in this world and Union with
the Divine. ~Jacob
The Sufi Path by Christopher Moinuddin
Clarke, Ph.D. "There
is a beautiful rendering of a Hadith of the Prophet Mohammad which is
the center of all Sufism: I was an unknown treasure and I loved to
be known. And in order to do this I became, in the consciousness of
all beings, the subject of my self-discovery; and, in the nature of
all beings, the object of my self-discovery. (Pir Vilayat)"
The second article covers Questions
Commonly Asked about the Sufi Order International.
The the third article, Pir Vilayat Khan offers readers some
suggestions for entering into authentic
meditation. He not only brings a lifetime of mastery with the
Sufi way but also involvement with other meditative traditons as well.
This piece may require several readings but its well worth the effort.
His approach is not based on speculation but real life experience. Pir
Vilayat's unique gift is to help the spiritual seeker bridge the
mysteries of the unseen world with the everyday challenges and
problems we all face at one time or another.
